Autism Therapy and Treatment

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and autism are both general terms for a group of complex disorders of brain development. These disorders are characterized, in varying degrees, by difficulties in social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication and repetitive behaviors.

The physical, occupational, and speech therapists here at ANR assess each individual’s needs, as those on the Autism Spectrum’s strengths and weaknesses can vary widely. After a thorough assessment, each therapy can assist our clients with:

School Skills and Tasks

Activities of Daily Living

  • Dressing, shoe tying, hygiene, and grooming

Sensory Modulation and Emotional Response

  • Tactile (touch)

  • Vestibular (balance)

  • Visual, oral, and gustatory (taste)

  • Auditory sensitivities


  • Communication, listening, and understanding

  • Executive functioning (high level daily mental skills)

  • Strength and proprioception (knowing where your body is in space)
