History

Mostly made up of farming families in the beginning, Queen Creek was known originally as Rittenhouse due to the railroad spur near Ellsworth and Rittenhouse roads. Folks used to flag down the train in order to catch a ride going to the capital Phoenix.  As the town’s population grew the use of the railroad stop weakened and the residents decided to change the name to Queen Creek. The town was only recently incorporated on Sept. 5, 1989 in order to preserve the rural feel while at the same time have opportunities to achieve managed change.
